Derek and Madie met when they were in 6th grade! Friend groups began to merge, allowing the two to be introduced for the first time. Being in different homerooms, they would often chat between the makeshift wall that Toki Middle School used. By 8th grade, the two would have multiple classes together and quickly call each other one of their best friends (and secret crushes of course!)

Like all relationships transitioning from Middle School to High School, Madie and Derek began to form their own friend groups and lost touch for a few years. But as the saying goes, if it's meant to be, they'll always find their way back to each other. By senior year, the two rekindled the spark that had been there since Middle School.

Once the two established their relationship, they would go on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire together (which wasn't even planned!) After college the two would spend 7 years together, moving into their first apartment and adopting their dog Sadie.

On their family trip to Hawaii, Derek proposed to Madie at the top of Diamond Head State Monument. He caught her completely by surprise! It was a beautiful day with such love and lots of celebrating.
